Reader Rob writes in with the origin of a common phrase:

"The phrase "A Tall cool drink of water" originates in the days of the old west, when the men spent their days out of the blazing heat in the run down saloons of their little frontier towns. When an especially beautiful woman might happen to enter or cross the room for any reason, especially if her social status would have prevented the men from ogling her too obviously, they would pretend to take long draughts from their drinks, which required them to tilt their heads back, putting the woman in their natural field of view. So: The phrase refers to a beautiful woman, and the sly methods employed to take a longer look.

One possible contradiction to this origin of the phrase is that many of the women who'd be in a saloon were likely prostitutes, and would not have objected in the least to the men 'considering her services.'"
