Reader B.S. writes in about infrasound:
"I read with interest your story about audio anomalies, specifically infrasound. I believe that this could quite possibly be the explanation for something that has been plaguing me for the past couple of years. Around the beginning of 2003 I started to hear what you described as a "hum". I've done quite a bit of research on this phenomenon (i.e. the Kokomo Hum) and my symptoms match to a 'T' - the low-pitched noise which was almost just a resonation in my chest cavity, kicking off bouts of nausea, irritability, and headaches, much like the people experience in the cities with this problem.

The similarities stop there, however. I have additional symptoms which I have not seen reported in anything other than "fringe" or "tin foil hat" literature. You see, my hum has followed me on vacations. Additionally, and I know how this must sound, I think that my hum has effected certain changes in my emotions and thinking. I've had what are termed as "intrusive thoughts" and bouts of irrational rage. I can be walking down the street and suddenly filled with an urge to harm someone else. This always happens after I hear the hum. I will be so full of anger and loathing towards some random person that I have never seen before, and it is very hard to fight the urge to hurt him or her. My psychotherapist thinks I have "issues", but this never happened until I started hearing the hum. I have been quite heavily medicated lately and still have heard the hum, although the medication is helping me control my irrational feelings.

I attached a .wav file of exactly what it sounds like. I found it on one of the afore-mentioned fringe websites. The site claims the noise makes you see God. Is God angry at me?"

Attached was this wave file. Pretty peculiar, I must say.

9/12/04 Update - I received another note about this site from an anonymous reader, who states:

"I found the site that B.S. was talking about. It's all a load of crap, to be honest."

Unfortunately the e-mail didn't mention the URL for the site, so I'm unable to judge for myself. I looked around and found a bunch of sites about 40 hertz but nothing with that sound on it. Someone let me know if you find it, please.
